The designs for a long-awaited pool and 3G pitch in a Norfolk town have finally been revealed after plans were submitted to a district council.

A project to build an extension at Fakenham's leisure centre, which will include a four-lane 25m community swimming pool and a new 3G artificial grass pitch, is finally under way after North Norfolk District Council submitted the plans to its own planning portal.

The £11m bid includes designs that unveil what the new extension will look like.

Fakenham, which has not had a pool since 2014 after Fakenham Academy closed its facility, was given the go-ahead for the £11m project earlier in November.

The highly anticipated announcement came after plans were thrown into doubt when the new Labour government launched a review of its predecessor's pledge of £9.9m towards the project.

However, North Norfolk District Council said the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government had given it the green light after the recent budget.

A 3G pitch will also be developed and will be able to offer an all-weather outdoor sports facility.

"The facilities will be adapted to increase the inclusivity of the spaces, introducing shower and changing cubicles, and will continue to be available for school use during school hours."
