Work to build 950 homes in a Norfolk town is expected to take 10 years to complete after delays in planning.

Fakenham is set for a major expansion of more than 900 homes on land to the north of the town.

The size of the development means the overall project has to be broken into phases with the construction of a roundabout for it seen as the first one

Norfolk County Council has said it anticipates work on the roundabout will take approximately 32 weeks to complete.

Christopher Cushing, North Norfolk district councillor for Fakenham Lancaster North Ward, said in his report to Fakenham Town Council the development could take 10 years.

He referenced the Planning Inspector's earlier report, which anticipates works to build the homes "will not see completions until at least 2027", owing to delays in the plans.

Mr Cushing said: "The Inspector believes when work does start, about 100 properties will be built per annum. Therefore, it will take about 10 years to complete."

The timeline is also subject to nutrient neutrality, which is required to offset the nitrates and phosphates the houses will generate.
