A fish and chip shop in a Norfolk market town has closed more than a year after it reopened under new management.

Britannia Fish Bar, on Bridge Street in Fakenham, announced on Facebook it was shutting, citing "unforeseen circumstnances".

In January 2023 the chippy reopened under the new management of Guy Kaba who had 15 years of experience in the industry and used to help his friend run a fish and chip shop in Norwich.

Mr Kaba said he had been saving money for years to be able to open his own fish bar and could not resist the opportunity when the premises in Fakenham became available.

The business offered burgers, wraps and Pukka pies in addition to the usual favourites.

However, this week the business said it was closing, apologising to customers and thanking them for their continued support.

The Facebook post said: "We at Britannia Fish Bar are very sorry to inform all our customers that due unforeseen circumstances we have had to close.

"Me and my staff would like to thank you all for your continued custom and support."

Some people who commented on the post dubbed the chippy the best in Fakenham, with others saying they were sad to see it go.

One person said it was the only fish bar in the town to offer gluten-free options for its customers.

Another said: "Best chippy and family ever to run a business. You are going to be missed Guy and team. Wish you all the best."

The business has declined to comment.
