Works to build Fakenham roundabout is expected to cost £3.6m

With the work about to start here is what is important to know about the project. 

Construction to complete a four-leg roundabout on the A148 is expected to cost £3.6m and is being funded by the landowner as part of conditions for planning and North Norfolk District Council.

The roundabout is part of plans to build more than 900 homes north of Fakenham.

The roundabout's construction is seen as an important phase of the plans and was scheduled to begin on September 9 but work was put on hold amid doubts of funding after the new government put the project under review - until last week.

Norfolk County Council has said it anticipates the work to take approximately 32 weeks to complete, subject to the weather, and will begin at the end of the month. 

The work to build the roundabout will also include a supporting footway on the Fakenham bypass, resurfacing works and a cycle lane along Wells Road.

A spokesman from Norfolk County Council said: "The purpose of these works is to improve the safety and efficiency of the junctions onto the A148 in line with planned developments in the local area and the expected increase in traffic."

For safety reasons, the U14049 Wells Road and the U14060 Water Moor Lane will be closed for the duration of the works.

The spokesman also said: "The A148 Fakenham Bypass will run on two-way lights throughout the works, however at times during the works, the road must be closed to allow for resurfacing.

"A fully signed official diversion route will be in place throughout.

"Access to properties within the closure will be maintained at all times, but slight delays may occur while the team on site make it safe for access."
