An MP is petitioning for the government to fulfil a £9.9m spend commitment to build a new swimming pool.
Jerome Mayhew, the Conservative MP for Broadland and Fakenham, wants to hear from the public about the need for Fakenham's swimming pool project to get the green light.
The petition comes after it was announced the new government would be reviewing the former government's commitment to give £9.9m towards building the £11m new swimming pool and 3G pitch in Fakenham.
Last month, North Norfolk District Council said it would not commit to the development without assurances the government will pay for it.
Although the former Tory government confirmed it was giving the market town money for its sports centre extension in Trap Lane, it postponed the final sign off until after the election.
Now, the fate of the project rests with Labour's decision makers.
Mr Mayhew said he has seen "critical investment projects be put in doubt" by the new government.
He said: "Labour needs to understand how important our new swimming pool is to Fakenham so I am asking residents to sign a petition that will help me fight to keep the funding that was granted by the last government.
"North Norfolk District Council has spent time and taxpayers' money developing the project having been supported by the Conservative government.
"To pull the plug now would waste all that investment and show that Labour is not interested in Norfolk."
NNDC has been reimbursed the £650,000 it has already spent on the project.
Mr Mayhew said in the petition: "In light of the review, I’d like to hear your views and use these to show the Treasury the strength of feeling in Fakenham towards this project.
"Let me know your views and I’ll ensure to share them with the relevant agencies as they work to decide on the future of our new pool in Fakenham."
