North Norfolk conservation area could get six more homes

A planning application has been lodged with North Norfolk District Council for the properties in Stiffkey, the popular holiday village near Wells-next-the-Sea.

The homes would be built in the garden of an existing bungalow, off Wells Road close to the village pub, the Red Lion, in a designated conservation area.

The plans outline four detached houses and two semi-detached homes, bringing the total on the land to seven, including the existing bungalow.

The applicants, Laura and Tom Abrey, hope for three three-bedroom bungalows, a detached two-storey home and two semi-detached houses with three bedrooms.

Two of the homes will be provided as affordable homes with one designed specifically to meet the requirements of a disabled individual.

Each property has been allocated two parking spaces.

Vertex Architecture, the agent acting on behalf of Mr and Mrs Abrey, said: "The development has been designed to ensure that it does not cause harm to these designated areas, and the materials, styles and details proposed are seen throughout the conservation area."

Stiffkey also falls within Norfolk's area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB).

The application said that the development aims to "to strike a balance between meeting housing needs and preserving the unique landscape and character of the AONB."

The scale, massing and materials have been chosen to "minimise visual intrusion and maintain the area's scenic beauty".

According to the 2021 census, just over 210 people live in Stiffkey.

A determination deadline is expected on September 9.
