People in a market town have shown their strong support for a new swimming pool to be built.
At a full meeting of Fakenham Town Council people turned up to show their backing for the project announced last November for the town’s Sports and Fitness Centre.
The extension to the centre, which will be built at Trap Lane Recreation Ground next to the current building, will include a new 25-metre swimming pool and a multi-use games area, with documents suggesting that ideally the pool will be delivered by March 2026.
Angela Glynn, mayor of Fakenham, said: “Following the meeting of full council we were delighted to see so many people turn up in attendance expressing support and excitement for the pool's arrival, the council shares this view.”
Councillors at North Norfolk District Council gave the green light to support the £11m project to build the new pool in late 2023 - after heaping praise on the scheme.
A spokeswoman from NNDC added: “This project is progressing well and officers are preparing an updated status report for the full council meeting on March 27.”
