Fakenham councillors urge traffic safety after A1065 crashes

Four separate crashes happened on the A1065 in the Toftrees area, near Fakenham, on January 9 and 10.

They saw one person being sent to hospital, two cars coming off the road, and an incident involving a jack-knifed lorry.

Tom FitzPatrick, county councillor for Fakenham, said: "I was sorry to hear of these accidents. Despite this busy stretch of road being in many ways the gateway to North Norfolk it is generally a safe road, although it does have accidents from time to time.

“Over the autumn and the start of winter, we have generally enjoyed relatively warm, though certainly wet weather, with only a couple of cold snaps until now and I hope that has not made us all feel complacent about driving conditions.

“I would urge everyone to drive according to the road conditions, which can often mean keeping below the speed limit when conditions dictate, particularly on those occasions we see the gritting teams out.

“It is even more important for each of us to ensure that our tires are adequate and legal, as our lives and those of our families and other passengers could depend on them.

“We should all please try to set off in good time so that we can avoid the temptation to rush. If the worst happens and we are delayed for any reason, it is better to arrive safely than not at all."

Angela Glynn, mayor of Fakenham, added: "Norfolk County Council has offered sound advice to drivers using the roads during this cold snap, and I can only add advice given to me many years ago by an experienced police driver who said 'Treat the speed limit as that, a limit...it's not a target'.

"Travelling at 50mph on bendy roads in wet and possibly icy conditions is likely to end in trouble."
