Plans have been submitted which could see a former diner transformed into a pizza restaurant.

An application has been sent to North Norfolk District Council which could see the former home of K’s Burger Bar, in Wells, turned into a pizza restaurant and takeaway.

K’s, which is found on The Quay, closed last October and the building was put up for lease.

The application includes details of proposed works, including the installation of a flue for a gas Neapolitan-style pizza oven, and the replacement of all existing restaurant signage.

It also outlines plans to install a metal wall light to each side of the entrance door, replacing the two ground floor windows, and decorations to the building.

Documents supporting the application state that all works will be carried out by certified local traders.

The document on the application’s page outlines the building's history, saying it opened for the first time in 1960 as Don's Snack Bar serving food to locals and visitors. In the 80's it became K's Burger Bar.

The burger bar was damaged in the December 2013 tidal surge leading to it undergoing a complete refurbishment.

It opened its doors once again as K's in 2014 with a 60's style American diner.

The document adds: “After much consideration on what the town and local area would benefit from, it was clear that keeping the premises as a restaurant would be ideal, not only due to the vast history it has in the local area but also for the high demand the town has for food during the summer months when it’s often hard to find available tables at local restaurants and pubs.

“There’s also a gap on the market for a decent Italian pizza. A couple of pubs in Wells have sold pizza on and off in the past but only during the summer months.

“The proposed works will enable a new business to be established, creating at least 30 new jobs, offering career opportunities and specific training for young people and local community.”
