A consultation has started about overhauling a market town’s skate park.
Fakenham Town Council has launched a consultation into a revamp of the Millennium Park skate park facility in the hopes of funding a complete overhaul.
The consultation is reaching out to skateboarders and others who use the park to establish the need for it is there.
Just over a decade ago, the Fakenham Recreation Ground Charity, along with other community groups, worked on a Park Life project, successfully raising funds for the project.
It included the provision of the skateboarding ramp and BMX area.
The council now says this existing equipment falls well short of current standards and the intention is to replace it with a modern, more sophisticated installation.
A spokesman for the council said: “The equipment originally provided has been superseded by better designs using much-improved construction materials.
"As skateboarding and BMX biking are now Olympic sports, it is time to provide users with modern facilities here in Fakenham.
“It seems that many skaters and bikers have to travel to Norwich or Cromer for a good and challenging experience.
"This is why we have set up a consultation questionnaire on our website and social media to gather comments from this group.
“We will then start a fundraising campaign to raise the money to fund new, improved facilities such as exist elsewhere. The council often hears the comment, ‘There's nothing for young people to do in this town’.
“We hope that this will go towards addressing this issue and look forward to hearing peoples' comments on our proposal."
Earlier this year the skatepark was closed after surface damage was found. The repairs have been delayed by all the bad weather but are scheduled within the next week or so if it dries up.
