She touched many hearts even though she survived for under two days.

Little Bonnie Webster died following a post-birth seizure at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on February 10 last year.

And now her granddad, Roger Atterwill, from Swanton Morley, is preparing to throw himself out of an aeroplane to fundraise for the charity that helped him and the rest of Bonnie’s family after her death.

Mr Atterwill, 52, said supporting East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) through a tandem skydive was his way of “paying something back”.

Mr Atterwill said: “Bonnie was a beautiful baby, but very sadly only survived for 37 hours after a very traumatic birth.

“I was present when her life support was switched off and I watched her slip away surrounded by her family.

“As a grandad, I can’t describe the feeling of utter helplessness watching my family overwhelmed with grief.”

Bonnie’s parents are Megan and Lee Webster, from Mileham, near Dereham.

Mr Atterwill - who is a parish and Breckland district councillor - said EACH had done everything they could to help them grieve the loss of their baby.

He said: “EACH provided tremendous care for my daughter and her husband after Bonnie’s death, and they helped provide them with physical memories that they can keep for the rest of their lives such as casts of hands and feet.

“They’ve helped all of the family through the grieving process, providing advice and support, even now, 18 months on.

“This is my way of trying to repay them for their love, kindness and professionalism.”

Mr Atterwill said he and his wife Helen had joined EACH's grandparents’ support group, which they had enjoyed being part of.

The skydive will take place at Beccles Airfield on September 9. To donate to the fundraiser, visit justgiving.com/page/roger-atterwill-1689330738313
