A school team won recognition for their hard work and success at an electric car race meeting.
The team of 12 Alderman Peel High School pupils took part in the Greenpower electric car racing meeting at the Lotus factory test track in Hethel.
Taking turns behind the wheel, they performed well in the practice session and the two 90-minute races, which were this time won by more experienced schools. However, Lotus awarded Alderman Peel a trophy for having the best portfolio for their marketing and fundraising campaign.
The purpose of these electric car races is about more than producing the next generation of engineers, it is about producing young people who have ambition and confidence when facing the future.
The trophy win shows that the Wells-next-the-Sea team, led by their teacher Amanda Moffatt, performed excellently.
One of the proud pupils said: “We’ve come a long way in such a short time. We can improve next year.”
Ms Moffatt added: “What an amazing day! Just getting to the starting line was a great achievement for this group of girls and boys aged 11-15; they built and modified their car in their after-school technology club every week over six months.
“And they did not do this alone; they were supported by the school maintenance workers and received generous funding from charities and businesses in the local community. This is an achievement that everyone in Wells-next-the-Sea can be proud to be a part of.”
