Fixtures secretary David Mayes said: For the second season running no matches were played on the second Saturday in January.

“Despite the current hiatus more Premier Division games have been played than at the same stage of last season and no major fixture problems are anticipated unless the freeze goes on and on ...”

He explained that one of the worst seasons for winter disruption was in the 1962/3 campaign.

Virtually everything came to a standstill soon after Christmas 1962 when the weather closed in and Britain experienced one of the worst winters on record.

Many pitches became ice-bound at the end of December and were unusable for almost three months until a slow thaw began around the middle of March. Very few games were played in this period and the backlog was considerable.

Some clubs were worse hit by the weather than others. Sudbury, for instance, still had 10 league games

to fit in after April 18 while King's Lynn Reserves had only three.

The league season was extended and the Challenge Cup abandoned at the quarter-final/semi-final stage.

Two of the Norfolk Senior Cup quarter-finals postponed from Saturday will hopefully go ahead on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).

Wroxham host Ridgeons Premier Division rivals Norwich United while Dereham entertain Gorleston, from the division below.

The other all-Ang Com ties - Loddon v Mattishall and Spixworth v Cromer - will be played on Saturday.

Wroxham play in the FA Vase fourth round proper that day at Armthorpe Welfare (Yorkshire), while Kirkley & Pakefield visit Needham Market.
